On Friday 10th February 2012 Sue arrived at Padiham Green looking more like your archetypal Fairy Godmother than an environmental artist!
If you have worked with Sue you'll realise the choice of estate vehicle she travels about in must have been the prerequisite of her job description!
Out of the back of this 'Mary Poppins type' vehicle came all manner of items for today's tasks:
large sheets of coloured paper
drawing paper
cauldron
coloured tissue paper
onions
saucepan
tomatoes
basil
celery
cream
coatstand (well, she is magic!)
butternut squash
Culpepper's herbal drawing handbook
apron
................and a pumpkin!
Well, it was a 'normal' day at Padiham Green - the last day of a half term, non-uniform day (in-house parental charitable donations), Post Ofsted - Day One (Phew!), Mrs. E's birthday (double digit & too close to retirement for comfort!), project artist in and 2nd year student's initial visit.
Life at Pad Green could NEVER be described as
D-U-Double-L..DULL!
The children were asked to compose lists of items that would have been available 400 years ago and items that the Lancashire Witches would not have had access to.

The last day of term really wasn't double dull... I was asked before I headed off in my fairy Godmother's (blue astra) carriage - why was I going to make soup with class 4 as I wasn't a food technology teacher... but an artist! The usual looks of 'Oh well it's mum and nothing will stop her... floated around the kitchen'... what a superb day! It was wonderful to see the children make Sue's Souper Soup a reality. Off to seek some new ideas seeds to plant in school next time I visit.
ReplyDeleteAnd here finally is the recipe for Pumpkin Soup
ReplyDeleteIngredients first...
450 grams/1lb pumpkin or thereabouts, a bit more is useful
225grams / 8oz of carrots ( thanks to Hazel the school cook... well I can't remember everything!)
900ml/ 1.5pints vegetable OR chicken stock
1 onion
225gms / 8oz tomatoes
sea salt and black pepper
2 tablespoons of chopped fresh basil
3 tablespoons of thick cream (optional)
The children have all the instructions for how to make the soup carefully stored in my cauldron at school. I wonder if they'll be able to add the recipe instructions to this blog? See you all soon.
Feel left out never got to try it!!
